A Walk Through The School Day
Here is a flavour of what you might encounter on a typical day at the school:
What are our starting points?
Students, parents and teachers talk, think and share. What are we bringing to the day? What prior learning do we have? What progress have we made with social competencies?
Where do we want to be?
Students, teachers and parents engage in developing their aspirations and targets for the day ahead.
Creating Positive Shared Learning Habits
Teachers, parents and students work together to embed reading as a habit and a skill which is developed every day.
Communicate
Teachers provide personalised, differentiated and creative learning opportunities for students to develop their speaking, listening and writing skills.
Solve a problem by using numbers
Our numeracy hour takes students ‘from the known to the unknown’, identifying gaps in their mathematical understanding and igniting their enthusiasm for problem solving.
Design, Collaborate, Influence
Google Apps for Education provide a range of tools to empower and liberate student learning. Students will be able to collaborate on projects, design and use their own learning website pages and share their learning with others.
A Gym which makes you smarter
Students at the Pears Family School have access to a unique system developed for premiership footballers which helps individuals to improve their resilience, concentration, attention and vision.
Support to Change
At any part of the school day the most pressing need for our students might be to unpick, discuss or express a feeling which is blocking their progress. At the Pears Family School, students have full-time access – at the point when it is needed – to expert, qualified teachers and therapists who can help address emotional vulnerabilities and help students re-engage with their learning.
A day in the life of a pupil at The Pears Family School…
I arrive at school between 9:00am - 9:30am.
On arrival I have the option to have breakfast with friends, my parent / carer and school staff.
Learning starts at 9:45am, when I need to be at my desk and ready for learning.
I normally start with an intervention task to prepare my brain for gathering knowledge.
Then at 10:00am it’s time to contribute with my class to the lesson objectives.
Depending on which morning of the week it is, I may have Maths, English, Swimming or PE!
My varied timetable keeps the week exciting.
Once I arrive at breaktime at around 11:00 am -11:20am, I go with my class to the park.
At the park I have a variety of activities to choose from: football, basketball, cricket, tennis and I even have access to the climbing frame, swings and slide!
Once I have burned off some energy it is time to head back into the school for the next lesson of the day.
Typically, maths is timetabled after breaktime.
I take part in maths and attempt to show off my maths skills.
Before I know it, it is lunch time. For most classes this starts at 12:30pm.
At this point me and my class will head up to the kitchen on the fifth floor. Parents / carers are welcome too.
I can select my lunch from the options provided. It is quite exciting as there are new options each day of the week.
Once food is out of the way it’s time to return to the park for some fresh air and to play with friends.
At 1.30pm we head back into school for another lesson.
These lessons are normally either science, PSHE, art, PE and sometimes even cooking!
On Fridays we also have enrichment! This gives me something to work towards at the end of the week.
Before I finish it is important that I reflect on my day. There are always things to be celebrated, even if parts of my day have been tricky. I am reminded to focus on the positives so I can take this forward. I look forward to reflection with my class and the staff supporting me.
The school day finishes at 2:45pm and I depart from school.
